Our Liquid Screeding Process

Curious about how we achieve such impeccably smooth floors? Let us walk you through our liquid screed installation process:

  1. Initial Consultation: We start by understanding your project’s unique requirements. This involves a site visit where we assess the area, discuss your needs, and offer professional advice to ensure the best outcome.
  2. Surface Preparation: A successful screed application begins with proper preparation. We clean the substrate to remove any debris and ensure it’s ready for the screed. If necessary, we install a damp-proof membrane to protect against moisture.
  3. Insulation and Acoustic Layering: For properties requiring additional thermal or acoustic insulation, we lay appropriate materials to enhance energy efficiency and soundproofing.
  4. Edge Strip Installation: We fit edge strips around the perimeter of the room. These allow for natural expansion and contraction, preventing potential cracks in the screed.
  5. Priming: Applying a primer ensures optimal bonding between the substrate and the liquid screed, promoting durability and longevity.
  6. Setting Up Underfloor Heating (if applicable): If your project includes underfloor heating, we carefully lay the heating pipes or cables, securing them in place to prevent movement during the screeding process.
  7. Mixing and Pouring the Screed: Using specialised equipment, we mix the liquid screed to the perfect consistency. It’s then pumped into the area, flowing effortlessly to create a level surface.
  8. Levelling and Dappling: While liquid screed is self-levelling, we use a dappling bar to remove any air bubbles and ensure an even distribution throughout the space.
  9. Drying Time: The screed is left to dry—usually walkable within 24-48 hours. Complete drying times can vary depending on the depth and environmental conditions, but we’ll provide guidance to keep your project on schedule.
  10. Quality Checks: After the screed has set, we perform thorough quality checks to ensure it meets our high standards. This includes verifying the levelness and integrity of the screed.
  11. Final Steps: Once fully dried, your new floor is ready for the final finish—be it tiling, wood flooring, or carpet. We’ll provide any necessary advice to help you achieve the best results with your chosen floor covering.

Our systematic approach ensures a hassle-free experience and a flawless finish that you’ll enjoy for years to come. We’re committed to making the process as smooth as the floors we lay!

You might be thinking…

What is Liquid Screed?

Ever wondered how to achieve that perfectly smooth, level floor finish in your home or commercial space? Liquid screed is the answer!

It’s a state-of-the-art flooring solution that’s revolutionising the way floors are laid in Oxford and beyond.

Unlike traditional screeds, liquid screed is a free-flowing compound that effortlessly spreads across your floor, filling every gap and creating a flawless surface.

This means no more uneven floors or long waiting times for the screed to set. Plus, it’s incredibly efficient when used with underfloor heating systems—a popular choice for many homeowners in Oxford—because it envelops the heating pipes completely, ensuring even heat distribution throughout your space.

Choosing liquid screed not only saves you time but also enhances the durability and performance of your floor finishes. It’s the modern, efficient way to lay floors, and we’re here to bring this innovative solution to your property in Oxford.

Benefits of Liquid Screed

Opting for liquid screed in your property brings a multitude of advantages that set it apart from traditional screeding methods:

  1. Swift Installation: Liquid screed can be poured rapidly, covering extensive areas in a short time. This accelerates your project timeline, allowing you to enjoy your new space sooner.
  2. Perfectly Smooth Finish: Its self-levelling nature ensures an ultra-smooth, flat surface that’s ideal for any floor covering—be it tiles, laminate, or hardwood. Say goodbye to uneven floors and hello to flawless finishes!
  3. Enhanced Underfloor Heating Efficiency: Liquid screed excels at enveloping underfloor heating pipes completely, eliminating air pockets and ensuring optimal heat transfer. This means your home stays warm and cosy while potentially reducing energy bills.
  4. Reduced Thickness, Increased Space: Because it’s stronger than traditional screed, it can be laid in thinner layers without compromising durability. This can give you extra headroom—a real bonus in properties where space is at a premium.
  5. Minimal Shrinkage and Cracking: The advanced formulation of liquid screed reduces the risk of shrinkage and cracking as it dries, leading to a more durable and long-lasting floor.
  6. Eco-Friendly Choice: Many liquid screeds are made with recycled or sustainable materials, making it a greener option for environmentally conscious homeowners in Oxford.
  7. Cost-Effective: While the initial material cost may be slightly higher, the speed of installation and reduced labour time often make liquid screed a more economical choice in the long run.

Choosing liquid screed is not just a flooring decision—it’s an investment in quality, efficiency, and comfort for your home or business in Oxford.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How long does liquid screed take to dry?

A: Generally, liquid screed is walkable within 24-48 hours after installation. However, the full drying time depends on the depth of the screed and environmental conditions. As a rule of thumb, allow one day per millimetre of screed thickness for drying. We’ll provide you with specific guidance based on your project’s details.

Q2: Is liquid screed suitable for underfloor heating systems?

A: Absolutely! Liquid screed is ideal for underfloor heating. It flows around the heating pipes, eliminating air pockets and ensuring efficient heat transfer. This results in a more responsive heating system and improved energy efficiency.

Q3: Can liquid screed be used in renovation projects?

A: Yes, liquid screed is perfect for both new builds and renovations. Its ability to be laid in thinner layers makes it suitable for projects where floor height is a concern. It can also be poured over existing floors, provided they are properly prepared.

Q4: What floor coverings can be used over liquid screed?

A: Liquid screed provides a smooth, level surface suitable for a variety of floor coverings, including tiles, laminate, hardwood, vinyl, and carpet. Before installing the final floor finish, we recommend ensuring the screed is fully dry and, in some cases, applying a suitable primer or moisture barrier.

Q5: Do I need to prepare the area before the screed is poured?

A: Our team will handle most of the preparation work. However, we advise that the area be clear of any obstructions, and any necessary plumbing or electrical work beneath the floor is completed prior to our arrival. We’ll discuss any specific requirements during the initial consultation.

Q6: Is liquid screed environmentally friendly?

A: Many liquid screeds are made from recycled or sustainable materials, making them an eco-friendly choice. Additionally, their compatibility with underfloor heating systems can contribute to lower energy consumption in your property.

Q7: How much does liquid screeding cost?

A: The cost of liquid screeding varies depending on factors like the size of the area, the depth of screed required, and any additional services such as insulation or underfloor heating installation. We offer competitive pricing and will provide a detailed quote tailored to your project.
